Mass death on European borders is being normalized by Western countries. Over 27,000 people have died or gone missing on the Mediterranean since 2014 and analysts report that this number is a large underestimate of the true number of refugees.

Thousands of people continue to flee Africa to European countries along a deathly voyage to escape poverty, corruption, and genocide. However strict regulations which limit these refugees from entering European countries alongside the media have ultimately unfortunately have criminalized these individuals.

European authorities have not created safe and legal methods for refugees to come to Europe. In fact, the climate of the global pandemic and the war in Ukraine have caused wealthier countries to harden their borders and, in doing so, have prevented refugees from seeking asylum and denying their right to international protection.

It’s important that people advocate for change in western countries' regulations in order for the protection of human rights within these countries. Epidemics and poor conditions have plagued these refugee’s lives however their freedom is being stripped from them, how is the continued allowance of this ethical?
