Is Charissa Thompson right for lying about the news?

Charissa Thompson admitted on her podcast, “Calm Down with Erin and Charissa”, that she had made up sideline news during her time as a reporter during NFL games. Thompson made up quotes for coaches, or players during her career.

Personally, I think she is in the wrong. Thompson’s lying goes against major journalism ethics and violates the law. Journalism has a code of ethics, like SPJ, that gives readers or listeners the certainty they are getting accurate and reliable information. Thompson completely goes against all those claims when she has fabricated her interviews.

Thompson’s actions affect the journalism world, and the law. Journalists are currently allowed the freedom to freely speak and release any media they desire. If journalists keep on misconstruing a false reality, I speculate if there will be new regulations, or laws altered from this problem.

Although Thompson might’ve had a hard time getting specific interviews, I believe that does not give her a right to make up false claims and quotes about others. I think this completely takes out the ethics of journalism, and violates ethics and laws.
